17 October 2013

I always loved holidays as a child, but as I've grown up, they have really given me something to look forward to. Whether it's seeing my family, a break from school/work/finals, or a fun party, a holiday is always something to gear up for. Loving holidays for me also means loving cute holiday decorations. It has been so much fun collecting my own and feeling like a real grown up as I decorate the house.

Insert: My Husband. He loves holidays. On the holiday itself. Not before. Not after. My husband does not love holiday decorations. Not a single bit. I'm not sure if this is a trend with all males, or just him. However, I'm pretty sure his head was about to explode when I made him come along to purchase our pumpkins at the end of September. (As my luck would have it, one of our pumpkins must have been bruised and is already beginning to rot. This is not helping my case.)

Anyways. Some of our biggest fights have been over my pre or post-season purchases of holiday decor. He can't understand why we should buy a Christmas tree stand in January (in his defense, we were moving soon and it was more stuff to lug around) or Easter decorations in May. Needless to say, he wasn't pleased with my Target/World Market haul last November after Halloween. However, I am loving the spooky touches, and it's a fun way to celebrate Halloween throughout the month since I'll be on a work trip over the 31st. And I waited for October to decorate - perfectly acceptable, right?

And, of course, my autumn table! (previously posted here)

How far in advance do you decorate for holidays? And what's your favorite Halloween decoration this year?

  1. Haha! My husband is the same way. Funny that we have the same spider from World Market. Which he also does not love. :)

  5. I don't decorate for Halloween...yet. I think I am going to pick up some pieces for next year though (after Halloween is over of course!) I think I can get away with decorating because my mother in law is a big decorator - so he's used to it by now!

  6. I think I get away with decorating because my mother in law decks out the house for holidays! There is just no escaping it!

  7. Cute decorations! I don't do specific Halloween decor at my house, but I love accenting with pumpkins and other harvest decor. Visiting from D.B.B.

  9. Very cute. When I was a young mom, I decorated for every holiday. It loses some of it's excitement as your kids get older. Or maybe I've just gotten tired. Either way, your house looks darling! Inspires me to dig out the Halloween decorations.

  10. Not just your husband--mine too. Except his extends past Holiday decor, right into General Decor. He's just not a fan of non-essential "stuff" ;)

  11. My husband is the same way! You are not alone unfortunately! It's so smart to buy decorations after the season when they are on clearance but I can never get into it after the holiday has passed. So I just always end up shelling out full price for decorations.. I think I need to try your way this year!

  12. I like your decor! I haven't decorated for fall this year, but my husband would start decorating for Christmas on November 1st if he could! I'm the mean woman that makes him wait until the day after Thanksgiving!!!

  13. Haha my husband is the same way about decorations, specifically for Christmas. I love having my own decorations too...makes me feel so grown up. I didn't decorate for Halloween so much as I decorated for fall in general with pumpkins, gourds and mums. Thanks for linking up!

  14. I start the celebrations for Halloween in October (pumpkins, horror movies, etc) and then in Novemeber start preparations and decorating for Christmas. I tried waiting for December but everything felt too rushed! No complaints from the boyfriend so far.....
