02 January 2014

Hey y'all! Happppppy New Year and happy Friday! Today, I'm going to open up a bit about my 5 resolutions for this year. I'd love to hear what you think, or see links to your resolutions, too. Keeping New Years resolutions is hard. I'm admittedly very bad at it. But, I hope by making this years goals attainable, I'll be more likely to keep them.

1. Stop holding grudges
After lots of life reflections recently, I realized that I hold grudges. Bad. So often, I let little mistakes, comments, or situations build and build until I either 1) hate someone or 2) think that someone hates me. This year, I'm going to make a conscious effort to let things go more easily, to forgive and forget, and stop dwelling on yesterday's happenings. I know I've changed and have made plenty of mistakes in my day, so I need to start giving the benefit of the doubt and stop being so quick to escalate.

2. Be a great friend
Whether this means more snail mail, catch up phone calls, being a better listener, or reaching out more often, I want to be more supportive of my friends. During law school, I wasn't a great friend. I had a lot on my plate and cared more about school and less about keeping in touch and what was going on in my friends' lives. Recently, I've realized that true, genuine friends are tough to come by. Somehow, I've been so blessed to have such amazing friends, both new and old. This year, I'm going to make up for lost time the past 3 years and be the best friend I can.

3. Be awesome at my job
I never want to look back in 5, 10, or 20 years and regret not throwing myself into my work while I had the opportunity during my first full year on the job. This year, I know I have fewer non work obligations than I probably ever will. I hope to work as hard as I possibly can and make the most impact possible so that I can feel proud of my work and what I'm doing.

4. Exercise 2x a week for 30 minutes
I'm pretty sure that last year, my resolution was to run a half marathon. I am pretty positive that I can't run half a mile right now and I've come nowhere close to a half marathon. Wanna know why? I hate distance running. Always have. With this resolution, I can walk, bike, jog... Whatever. Basically, get off my butt two nights a week. That's doable, right?

5. Blog twice a week... For me
I've had a ton of fun with this blog. It is crazy to look back at a previous post and remember exactly where I was when I wrote it. More importantly, I remember how I felt. Some of my greatest memories are in these posts. I also remember my anxiety during my bar studies, my happiness spent with friends and family, and all of the various celebrations since I started this blog in May. Reading these posts make me realize that I'm a pretty lucky girl - something that is all too easy to forget. I want to blog twice a week so that I can look back and remember the good and bad times. So, although I'll try to keep the content to stuff that you actually want to read, I need to make this blog for me and not for other people.

That being said, I'd love to have you along for the ride in 2014! Follow along... It will be fun! And, I'd love to see your resolutions this year! Comment at the bottom if you're sharing yours today, too.

Xoxo, y'all. Cheers to making 2014 the best year yet. (Oh, and Clemson beating Ohio State tonight in our bowl game. You didn't think I'd forget about that, did you?)

  1. Love the exercising doing whatever, as long as you exercise! Last year I wanted to do a 5k... didn't happen, so I'm trying again this year to just do something everyday. Doesn't matter what. Just something! Happy Friday girlie!

  5. Visiting from H54F ... I did the same thing, sharing resolutions for my Friday 5! Love how you shared "Blog ...for me". Blogging is gives such a unique opportunity to capture and preserve moments {good. bad. difficult. precious.} and those memories in our lives that we might otherwise not look back on. It's a beautiful thing ;) Thanks for sharing your resolutions! Have a fabulous weekend, and Happy New Year! :)

  6. I used to totally be a "grudge" type of person, too. I'm not sure what changed but I honestly think getting married this past year has really put things like that into perspective for me. It's something I still need to think about sometimes but I'm getting better! I think even just acknowledging the fact that we do it helps! And I'll be rooting for Clemson tonight - I can't stand "the" Ohio State!

  7. OK first off, LOVE LOVE the decor of your blog, its simple but so much fun!! Im obsessing over the glitter on your header, sooo gorgeous!! Secondly, I love your resolutions. Myself I can deff relate to working out twice weekly, I'm trying myself to do that. As a SAHM sometimes it can be a bit of a a challenge to time manage but you can do anything you put your mind to!! All of your other resolutions are awesome because being a great friend is SUPER important ( its hard to sometimes to find those gems), and being great at your job and not regretting anything I have talked to my husband on many occasions about this and you deff want to LOVe what you do and not have any retreats about it! and blogging twice weekly is an awesome commitment, I know that sometimes time can slip by before you know it your going oh shoot i have forgotten about my blog with the business of life! I pray blessings upon you in your journey !!
