post #66 - Home Office Update

24 August 2014

Hey y'all! Hoping everyone had a great weekend - I know I did! I left after work on Friday and went to Greenville to shop with friends. Then, I headed back to Columbia and spent a low-key Saturday night watching Breaking Bad with Jo. Is anyone else loving this show?

Sunday was spent working in the house. To provide an update, we've been a little slow getting things done in these parts. I've been waiting to unpack lots of things until I'm sure of the way I want them. I'm finally starting to hang things on the walls and unpack our "unnecessary" things.

Our study/home office has been especially slow on the unpacking front. I'm eager to get this room painted and set up! There are some major things we need here. Since we moved into our last house, I've been on the hunt for a desk lamp. I'm torn between a table lamp that will take up space on the table but look a bit more trendy, vs. a traditional desk lamp. We also need lots of throw pillows for this room. We have a couch and a window seat, which I can't wait to curl up in and read a book!

We'll plan on putting most of our framed Clemson prints in this room, so it will have lots of orange accents. We also are going to paint the room a darker grey/blue color. We've done the majority of the house in a very light grey, so we plan on finding something that will compliment the space outside the room. Pictures coming soon!

Here are a few of our priority purchases for this room. Although some of these things are a little a lot out of our price range, these are a few ideas.

I'd love to hear your thoughts - this is definitely not my forte, so I'd love to hear from those of you that are far craftier than me!

post #65 - Still alive! And big news...

09 June 2014

Hey y'all! Once again...unplanned blogging hiatus. Things have been pretty busy in my world. Lots of work, friends, and just general life stuff.

Here are a few pictures of what's going on in my world...

You may be wondering what cheap spaghetti for dinner, paint colors, and lots + lots + lots of boxes have in common. Our big news is that we're closing on our first house on June 30!

We are so excited. We've started the packing process, but 1000 boxes later, I feel like we're only about 1/4 of the way done.

Hopefully this will encourage lots more posts and DIY on my end. Looking forward to finally living in a house that we can make a home...and having lots of extra space to entertain and fill with friends and family!

Here are some of my favorite ideas that I've spotted over the weekend:

The shelving and stone backspash here are to die for!

This entire guest room is fantastic, but these prints are so handy and perfect!

This dresser. Obsessed. Just...yep. Obsessed.

I'll be doing lots of posts on house inspirations and blogging with updates on our decorating (and furniture purchasing!) process (on a budget, of course!!)... Feel free to follow along with my Pinterest house posts here or follow on Bloglovin here!

Until next time! xoxo

post #64: friday five - what i've been up to

04 April 2014

Hi friends! Happy Friday!

I know I've been gone from blogging for a long. long. long. time. So much for that New Years Resolution (which was brought to my attention yesterday by a coworker.) Oops. Blogging has taken a backseat to a lot of other things recently, as it should. Things like work, sleep, and the return of some of my favorite TV shows (duh).

I spent the month of January going to the gym almost every day. Then there was the ice storm(s), and that dwindled a little. Then it dwindled a lot. Oops again. Another New Years Resolution down the drain.

But today's focus isn't on what I haven't been doing. It's on what I have been doing! Here are my five favorite things of the past few months...

1. Girls Weekend #1

One of my best friends from college is moving across the country with her military husband to California. We've all loved going to her house in Beaufort, SC for the past several years and having girls weekends, where we eat, drink, and play in one of the cutest towns around. We decided to have one last hoorah before her big move. We're counting down the months until we plan a girls weekend in Cali! (Maybe the boys can come too. But probably not.)

[will miss this sweet friend so much!]

2. Girls Weekend #2
I also got together in Charlotte with more besties for another girls weekend! We were celebrating the engagement of my friend Katie, and just enjoying being together - something that we don't get to do often enough since we're all in different cities. After an awesome weekend of wine, shopping, wine, mani-pedis, and more wine, we all left thinking life was great and couldn't get much better.

Then, I got a call a few weeks later from Meghan...she was engaged!! We couldn't be more excited for one of our favorite couples, and I'm thrilled for all of the wedding fun to come! I know that Katie and Meghan will be two of the prettiest brides!! 2015 is sure going to be a great year.

[2008 st. pats throwback with the brides. you. are. welcome.]

3. Greenville Wedding
We had so much fun getting to spend time with another group of our college friends at a fabulous wedding in Greenville! Stacy was a beautiful bride and the couple was so sweet. We knew the wedding would be one to remember when the bride and groom were introduced at the reception and immediately started singing a top notch karaoke rendition of Journey's "Don't Stop Believing." Congrats to this sweet couple!

4. Carolina Cup
We had a blast at Carolina Cup again this year. Even though the weather was overcast with morning rain and we didn't have as large of a group as we have had in the past, a day of tailgating with friends and wearing sundresses in March (combined with morning drinks, a personal favorite) is always fun.

5. Milly's Birthday

This little princess turned 4. Love.
[they just grow up so fast.]

It feels great to be back! Come back soon - I [hopefully] know I will! :-) xo

02 January 2014

Hey y'all! Happppppy New Year and happy Friday! Today, I'm going to open up a bit about my 5 resolutions for this year. I'd love to hear what you think, or see links to your resolutions, too. Keeping New Years resolutions is hard. I'm admittedly very bad at it. But, I hope by making this years goals attainable, I'll be more likely to keep them.

1. Stop holding grudges
After lots of life reflections recently, I realized that I hold grudges. Bad. So often, I let little mistakes, comments, or situations build and build until I either 1) hate someone or 2) think that someone hates me. This year, I'm going to make a conscious effort to let things go more easily, to forgive and forget, and stop dwelling on yesterday's happenings. I know I've changed and have made plenty of mistakes in my day, so I need to start giving the benefit of the doubt and stop being so quick to escalate.

2. Be a great friend
Whether this means more snail mail, catch up phone calls, being a better listener, or reaching out more often, I want to be more supportive of my friends. During law school, I wasn't a great friend. I had a lot on my plate and cared more about school and less about keeping in touch and what was going on in my friends' lives. Recently, I've realized that true, genuine friends are tough to come by. Somehow, I've been so blessed to have such amazing friends, both new and old. This year, I'm going to make up for lost time the past 3 years and be the best friend I can.

3. Be awesome at my job
I never want to look back in 5, 10, or 20 years and regret not throwing myself into my work while I had the opportunity during my first full year on the job. This year, I know I have fewer non work obligations than I probably ever will. I hope to work as hard as I possibly can and make the most impact possible so that I can feel proud of my work and what I'm doing.

4. Exercise 2x a week for 30 minutes
I'm pretty sure that last year, my resolution was to run a half marathon. I am pretty positive that I can't run half a mile right now and I've come nowhere close to a half marathon. Wanna know why? I hate distance running. Always have. With this resolution, I can walk, bike, jog... Whatever. Basically, get off my butt two nights a week. That's doable, right?

5. Blog twice a week... For me
I've had a ton of fun with this blog. It is crazy to look back at a previous post and remember exactly where I was when I wrote it. More importantly, I remember how I felt. Some of my greatest memories are in these posts. I also remember my anxiety during my bar studies, my happiness spent with friends and family, and all of the various celebrations since I started this blog in May. Reading these posts make me realize that I'm a pretty lucky girl - something that is all too easy to forget. I want to blog twice a week so that I can look back and remember the good and bad times. So, although I'll try to keep the content to stuff that you actually want to read, I need to make this blog for me and not for other people.

That being said, I'd love to have you along for the ride in 2014! Follow along... It will be fun! And, I'd love to see your resolutions this year! Comment at the bottom if you're sharing yours today, too.

Xoxo, y'all. Cheers to making 2014 the best year yet. (Oh, and Clemson beating Ohio State tonight in our bowl game. You didn't think I'd forget about that, did you?)
